ARTIST PLAYSHOPS

Playshops are intimate, creative, unique and big fun! All playshops will be held in the High Sierra Music Hall unless otherwise noted.

FRIDAY

10:45am-11:30am ~ Little Bears Run! Jump! Dance! Sing!
Moms and Dads bring the kids over for a special morning family musical experience. Teacher Barb will show the kids the joys of rhythm & harmony. Held in Mineral Building

11:45am-12:45pm ~ Allman Brothers Jam
Blue Bear School of Music instructors Sean Leahy and Mark Schuh will lead all through some of The Allman Brothers Band most classic tunes. Bring whatever instruments you have around the camp and join the fun! Held in Mineral Building

1pm-2:15pm ~ Exploring The Roots Of Led Zeppelin
With Robert Plant playing this year we couldn't resist paying tribute to his illustrious band. Zeppelin borrowed liberally from blues and folk music then innovated to create a whole new sound. Join Bo Carper, Lebo and Scott Pemberton and band as they playfully explore the historical and musical interrelationships between Zeppelin's repertoire and the music that inspired them.

3pm–4:15pm ~ High Sierra Pick Extravaganza
The annual High Sierra Pick has fast become a staple featuring many of the festival’s finest pickers and bluegrassers. This year’s pick will be hosted by Fruition. C’mon down to the pick and see who steps up!

5pm–6:15pm ~ Undiscovered Soul
The recent resurgence of roots soul music finds music lovers digging through vinyl bins for that rare and forgotten artist or record. Join Orgone and friends as they dig up and dig in to some of these still relatively unknowns gems.  


SATURDAY

12pm–1pm ~ Elephant In The Room
We’re thrilled to have Bonnie Paine and Daniel Rodriguez of Elephant Revival, an acoustic string band from Colorado, joining us this year. The two will be sharing songs and fielding questions as they explore the craft of songwriting and their use of washboard and musical saw.

1:30pm–2:45pm ~ Jamming On The Brill Building
NYC's Brill Building has been called the most important generator of songs in the western world. It was a veritable hit factory where songwriters such as Burt Bacharach, Neil Diamond, Phil Spector, and even a young Paul Simon hunkered down. Join Lebo and friends as they take us on a musical tour of the famed Brill Building by reworking and reinterpreting these classic tunes.

3:30pm–4:45pm ~ Skerik’s Lab
Acclaimed ever-present saxophonist Skerik will lead a participatory horn based playshop where he’ll assemble a cast of top-shelf players from the festival and players from the audience to join. Horn players bring your brass and prepare to obey the captain of the ship!

4:45pm–6pm ~ On The Pulse with The Barr Brothers
The Barr Brothers and friends will explore some of the fundamentals of music making. Using layers of rhythmic pulsing and a mix of sustained harmonic drones, they will experiment with the primal relationship between harmony and rhythm and the audience.

12pm–1:15pm ~ Bloody Mary Ball with The California Honeydrops
It’s always a party when The California Honeydrops take the stage and what better time to party then on Sunday at high noon at HSMF. Come on down to the 2nd Annual Bloody Mary Ball and start your day right with a Bloody Mary and the sweet soul sounds of The California Honeydrops.

2pm–3:15pm ~ UNPLUGGED: The David Mayfield Parade
If you’ve seen David Mayfield perform well, then you know… and if you haven’t, well, then you should. Join The David Mayfield Parade and friends in this special unplugged session and see for yourself.

4pm–5:15pm ~ Guitarmageddon: Stadium Rock
Come celebrate 10 years of Guitarmageddon at HSMF as your favorite festival guitar heroes pull out all the stops for this years theme, Stadium Rock! Simon Kurth returns as musical director and will be joined by Josh Clark (Tea Leaf Green), Sean Leahy, and Jeff Miller (New Monsoon), plus many other special guests. Come rock out to classics from The Who, Aerosmith, Queen, Derek & The Dominos, Led Zeppelin, and many more! Lighters not included.
