2014 Hours: Friday, Saturday & Sunday: 9am-1pm & 2pm–6pm

Art Projects: Come join us under the open craft barn. We're creating inspiring and beautiful keepsakes to bring home and share with family and friends.
• Home-made and recycled musical instruments
• Transform into your favorite bug by making your own wings
• Make paper and postcards from natural pulp
• Create projects from local flora and fauna while learning about trees and flowers of the High Sierras

Art Wall: Come one, come all and join Steve and friends at the art wall to create a wild and crazy collective Family Area mural.

Field Games: We love to dance in the Family Area... but we also love to run, toss, jump, get wet and play, play, play. Get cooled down with the exploding water balloon toss and awesome slip and slide. Make giant bubbles and join the playful and serious competitions in the ridiculous three legged races and more.

Parades: Join in the daily parades, beginning Thursday evening - just step right in and shake it. Sunday is the special Kids Parade, when children lead the procession with Gumbo Wobbly and friends.

Family Area Vending Zone: Check out Nick Graham's Party Animals for fabulous puppet marionettes, 3 Little Stars for whimsical festival fashion for your little ones, wonderful Face & Body Art by mother-daughter team Naiara & Kathleen, and the Watershed Education Booth for fun activities including the Bucks Lake Family Outing offered on Saturday (more info).

The Big Todo Circus will "turnip the beet" with an educational carnival booth. You'll also find your favorite Family Stage performers CDs and children's books, plus kid-sized High Sierra t-shirts, jumpers and adorable sun-hats. Smokey Bear will remind us all-important tips in safe camping and join us for the Kids Parade on Sunday.

Park your skateboard, stroller and bikes in our little parking area. Rest and relax at the family chill zone, a serene spot in the middle of our Family Area.

Meet Our 2014 Family Stage Performers

Special Guest Appearance!
Bumpity Bumps: Lebo, Bo Carper, Laura and Shane Ossa
Dan "Lebo" Lebowitz of ALO and Bo Carper of New Monsoon team up with preschool director (and part-time Quincy local of 10+ years) Laura Ossa and her husband Shane to play songs from the sweet Sunset Co-Op. The Sunset Co-Op is the oldest continually operating parent-participation preschool in San Francisco, and the birth-place of this trio's new family sound. The Family Area is sure to be hoppin' as the shade settles on Friday for this once-in-a-lifetime set.

Michael Della Penna
Mike Della Penna, our magical delight of the awesome Family Stage at High Sierra Music Festival, hails from the Bay Area. Mike performs magic and comedy all over the country, creating wonder and laughter with his amazing, playful magic performances and leaving children spell bound time after time.

The Bug Family Band
The Bug Family Band plays rockin' original music for kids (and former kids). Hatched in the Bay Area as the Ladybug Picnic, they metamorphosized into their mature band with eight rockin' Bugs and are now gracing the High Sierra Family Stage with their debut CD. They are sure to rock us all into a pollination frenzy that you don't want to miss!

Banana Slug String Band
Doug Dirt and Airy Larry of the Banana Slug String Band are featured this year as a Family Area favorite. These lovable musicians blend music and theater to create lively audience participation and learning environment. We are thrilled to have them back to the Family Area.

Living Folklore
Living Folklore will be back once again with Giant Puppets, Clown Yoga with Gumbo Wobbly, Storytelling with Gala The Flower Faerie, and Puppet Shows with Dennis the Red. This year's Kids Parade features a Queen Bee in a tribute the pollinators, The Ladybug Faerie and a garden of dancing flowers, Wandering Sahuaro Cactus and the bats who pollinate them, as well as old favorites like The Hillbillie, Alien with pink Guitar, Kokopelli and more.

Heather Normandale Band
Dandelions, Tigers and Bears! Heather Normandale teams up with a funky group of instrument playing wild animals to bring fun and danceable kids music to the High Sierra Family Stage, along with puppet action from Dennis the Red and other high flying shenanigans from the team of Living Folklore.

Kiddo Disco
Kiddo Disco is the family-friendly, interactive dance jam that proves the power of funk can move even the tiniest of feet. DJ Matt Haze and Eitch are here to elevate, educate and celebrate HSMF with you and your kiddos - so let's all get down!

Jennifer Aguirre
Jennifer Aguirre has been performing one of her six themed puppet story aprons at the High Sierra Family Area for many years now. The children point to a pocket and a puppet comes delightfully to life through stories and songs. Her gentle puppetry engages children as well as adults.

Enjoy a naturalist-led hike on the Mill Creek trail around the lake and then some free time to swim and relax around the shores of Bucks Lake. This is a perfect opportunity for families with kids to get a little break from the festival and explore all the best that Plumas County has to offer.
