The Slip broke the longest running streak for consecutive appearances at High Sierra (12 years) when they missed last year’s fest. Brothers Andrew (drums) and Brad (guitar/vocals) Barr, formerly of Providence, R.I., moved to Montreal a few years ago and have been concentrating more on their Barr Brothers project and Surprise Me Mr. Davis (the Slip with Nathan Moore and Marco Benevento), rather than The Slip. But High Sierra is a special meeting place for both the band and its incredibly loyal west coast following and both look forward to any shows the band plays west of the Mississippi (as witnessed by their highly anticipated New Year’s run at S.F.’s Café du Nord). Bassist Marc Friedman has been busy as well, having recently produced (and occasionally playing bass for) S.F. band Big Light’s latest studio offering. The Slip is one of the most innovative trios making music today. The breadth of styles, moods and tempos this trio wrap their collective approach around is simply astonishing, and they do it all with the highest level of artistic success. Welcome back boys, we missed ya!
