Most 16 year-old kids have epiphanies around the music they listen to at that age. For Chuck Prophet, one of those records was The Clash’s London Calling. He’s called this
double-album, the third studio album by The Clash (and one that was voted into
the Grammy Hall Of Fame in 2007) a “perfect record in so many ways”. Thirty years
later the SF based Prophet, an accomplished if perennially underrated guitarist/
singer and songwriter in his own right is having big fun with this classic which
shows The Clash infusing more ska, soul, jazz, rockabilly and reggae into their
politically charged punk rock sound. Prophet has assembled a rock solid band for
this tribute, including longtime SF power-popper Chris Von Sneidern. Their top-to-
bottom performance of the entire nineteen-song London Calling has the makings to
go down as another legendary set at High Sierra.
