The high-energy crew of self-styled “party starters,” collectively known as Red Baraat is a Brooklyn, NY based nine-piece ensemble that melds Indian Bhangra beats with big brass accompaniments to create a unique sound somewhere between Go-Go, Latin jazz and funk that’s been described as “New York meets New Delhi.” Bandleader/percussionist Sunny Jain is known as an innovator in the contemporary world fusion scene. Jain, a drumset player since the age of 12, was trained in the jazz tradition and established an impressive resume early on playing with such high-profile stars as Peter Gabriel, Norah Jones and David Byrne. Jain wanted a band that reflected his Indian (Punjabi) roots but one that was primal and portable, and took into consideration the sounds of America that everyone in the band grew up listening to. Their rollicking combination of styles culminates in a stage show full of bombastic, non-stop energy.
