My Morning Jacket is a band that is nearly impossible to pigeonhole, kind of like Kentucky's answer to Wilco -- a band rooted in the worlds of alt-country and the more psychedelic side of weirder, reverb-y rock'n'roll but given to sonic experimentation and unexpected genre changes at every turn. Led by singer/songwriter Jim James the band formed in their hometown of Louisville, KY a little over 10 years ago and has grown from being one of America’s most promising young bands to one of the world’s most beloved rock bands. Those who were tuned in to MMJ back in 2006 got a taste of the band at High Sierra as they performed twice (a Grandstand set and late night Music Hall set with Surprise Me Mr. Davis). On each of their five records the band has taken risks which each release, always choosing the musically adventurous path. In October of 2010 they did a historic five-night run of shows at New York’s Terminal 5, each night playing one of their albums in its entirety. While being lauded for their studio work (MMJ are just putting the finishing touches on their sixth album which will come out in April of this year), they're equally lauded for their electrifying live shows and have been fortunate enough to perform with many iconic musicians over the years from the Boston Pops to the Preservation Hall Jazz Band and many points in between. High Sierra will be the groups only West Coast festival appearance in 2011.
