"Super stylin’ plaidgrass"
Chicago's Cornmeal is a progressive bluegrass band steeped in the tradition of musical acts such as Old and in the Way, John Hartford and New Grass Revival. It's bluegrass at its core but so much more. The band started as a side project seven years ago and has since grown into a Windy City institution . With dynamic songwriting, impressive musicianship (banjo, guitar, string bass, drums, fiddle) and three albums to their credit, Cornmeal has emerged from their Midwest home turf to serve music that's nutritious (to the soul) and delicious (to the ears) to a growing national fanbase, even winning last year's New Groove Jammy award. Cornmeal has consistently evolved its sound and stage performance, using bluegrass as a springboard for long improvisational work and songs that wrap its arms around country, rock, blues, jazz, funk and disco. And they do some killer covers too. We love 'em so much we've invited them back to High Sierra for their third consecutive appearance.
