"The Three Must-You-Hears"
This special triumvirate featuring three genre-bending masters represents a harmonic convergence of virtuosity that is rarely ever witnessed. Steeped in jazz, funk and bluegrass, banjo star Bela Fleck explores everything from Bach to West African griot incantations when not touring with his hugely popular Flecktones. How many High Sierra festival-goers remember Bela's incredible playshop with tabla player Trilok Gurtu from 2001? ) Marin County-based Zakir Hussain is the world's most celebrated tabla player, a legend whose intrepid collaborations with the likes of Yo-Yo Ma, John McLaughlin and Mickey Hart have opened up new musical realms. And Edgar Meyer is a bass visionary who has continually expanded the range of his instrument whether he's playing Bluegrass/Newgrass with the likes of Mike Marshall, Nickel Creek and Allison Krause or composing and arranging with various chamber groups or classical projects such as his acclaimed Appalachia Waltz with Marc O'Connor and Yo-Yo Ma . More than a trio, this is a meeting of musical minds that rivals any "supergroup" in music history.
